WHAT IS A GERIATRIC CARE MANAGER?

A Geriatric Care Manager (GCM) is a professional, specializing in the practice of assisting older people and their families with long-term or short-term care arrangements. Care Managers have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree but usually have a graduate degree in social work, psychology, nursing, counseling or gerontology. GCM's also have extensive knowledge and experience about the

cost, quality and availability of services in the older person's or family's community. Families and other professionals consult GCM's to assist in making an assessment of the older adult's needs and then obtaining the needed services.
